Do you love solo lunches?
They are one of my favorite quiet mid-day resets.
Nothing dramatic.
A picnic.
An open patio.
Sometimes just sitting in the car with the sunroof open, studying the shapes of clouds drifting overhead.
One of those in-between moments where we hit the pause button on life.
Today, my dog and I stopped at a park beside a church for a picnic and break away from my desk.
Right as we were leaving, a prayer came over the loudspeaker, followed by the sound of church bells echoing through the park.
It felt appropriately grounding.
Modern life moves so quickly that many of us stop participating in our own days entirely.
Errands.
Bills.
Schedules.
Home maintenance.
Chores.
Responsibilities.
Weeks pass.
Then seasons.
How many of us quietly drift into survival mode without even realizing it happened?
Not unhappy exactly.
Just existing carefully.
Not realizing we have left living and participating and accidentally stepped into maintaining and surviving our tasks and responsibilities.
There is a difference between maintaining a life and actually living it. Living doesn’t necessarily require dramatic change. Or that ‘Someday, I’ll ….."
It’s much smaller than that.
A slower lunch.
A slower walk.
A conversation that lasts a little longer than planned.
Noticing things in your environment.
Participating in your own life instead of simply moving through it.
I hope you find a little time for joy, curiosity, or quiet adventure today.
More soon.
